John Bruen as Head of Infracapital at M&G
John Bruen has been appointed Head of Infracapital at M&G. He will join on 1 September, reporting to Emmanuel Deblanc, Chief Investment Officer, Private Markets at M&G Investments.
John has more than 25 years of international infrastructure investment experience. He joins from H.I.G. Capital, where as Managing Director and Partner he helped establish the firm's infrastructure platform and raise its inaugural US$1.3 billion value-add infrastructure fund. John has extensive experience investing in and managing portfolio companies in the infrastructure industry having worked at Macquarie Asset Management and Ferrovial Airports previously.
He succeeds Martin Lennon, who is retiring after more than 36 years in the industry. Since co-founding Infracapital in 2001, he led its growth into one of Europe's leading mid-market infrastructure investors. Infracapital raised more than £9 billion across a series of funds investing in essential infrastructure throughout Europe through public-private partnerships, brownfield infrastructure assets and greenfield development across the energy, digital infrastructure, transport and utilities sectors.
As Europe seeks to strengthen energy security, accelerate decarbonisation, support digitalisation and drive economic growth, Infracapital continues to play a leading role in financing and developing the essential infrastructure on which communities and businesses depend.
Emmanuel Deblanc, Chief Investment Officer, Private Markets at M&G Investments, said: 'John is a highly respected leader in the infrastructure industry with an outstanding record of investing in and growing businesses. His combination of investment and leadership experience, along with deep industry relationships, makes him exceptionally well positioned to lead Infracapital through its next phase of growth as demand for investment in essential infrastructure continues to grow across Europe.'
'I would like to thank Martin for his remarkable contribution to our business over the last 28 years. Through his leadership, Infracapital has established itself as a trusted partner to investors and portfolio companies alike, whilst playing a pivotal role in shaping the infrastructure investment industry in Europe. He will remain actively involved during the leadership transition, working closely with the team to ensure a seamless handover and continuity for clients and stakeholders.'
John Bruen, said: 'As demand for infrastructure continues to grow, driven by the energy transition, digitalisation and the need to modernise critical assets, the market presents significant long-term investment opportunities. Infracapital's investment approach, deep sector expertise and established track record position it strongly to benefit from these structural trends. I am excited to work with the team to build on these foundations and continue delivering for our investors and stakeholders.'
Martin Lennon, said: 'I am proud of what we have built at Infracapital over the past 25 years. Our success has been shaped by the contributions of many talented colleagues, past and present, and by the trust placed in us by our clients. Together, we have played a part in the growth of infrastructure from a niche investment strategy into a mainstream asset class for institutional investors, and it has been a privilege to witness that evolution firsthand. When I retire, I do so knowing the business is exceptionally well positioned for the future.'
